On August 8 I worked from
9:00 AM until 4:00 PM for a total of seven hours. I have worked a total of 163
hours this summer at THS. August 8 was my final day interning at Theatre
Historical Society. Foy my final day I primarily worked on doing research on
several different theatres. The theatres I researched were: the Great Lakes Theatre
(Detroit, MI), the Birmingham Theatre (Birmingham, MI), the Fox Wilshire
Theatre (Beverly Hills, CA), the Studebaker Theatre (Chicago, IL), the Town
Hall Theatre (Toledo, OH), and the Kramer Theatre (Detroit, MI). I was doing
research for a chain of theatres that wanted to do an online exhibit on the
theatres they owned. For my final day I was also taken out to lunch by some of
the staff of THS, which was very nice. Overall I have had an excellent
experience interning at THS. I learned a host of skills that will come in handy
in the archiving and museum fields (which is what I want to do). Some of the
skills I learned included: how to handle archival documents, how to handle
archival materials, how to handle archival photos, how to create an exhibit,
how to catalogue items received as gifts from people, what is important in
starting an archive, and how to run an archive. All of these skills will no
doubt be helpful in my future profession and Theatre Historical Society has my gratitude
for helping me on my journey.
